McQueen opts for film over catwalk

Rebel designer Alexander McQueen stayed away from the catwalks this week and instead showed his men’s spring summer 2010 collection via the medium film, made in collaboration with the photographer David Sims.

The collection, entitled Analyze That, was inspired by the craft of the artist, conveyed through artisanal techniques and an individual spirit that took menswear outside the rules of convention, reports WGSN.

Hence the washed leather pants, the overdyed and washed denim jackets and the paint flecks highlighting a classic Prince of Wales check. There was an unconventional twist, too, in the scribbled eagle print etching a soft voile shirt, or in the hand-painted stripes decorating knitwear and the painterly hand prints defining the jacket of a denim suit.

Silhouettes were soft and relaxed with an easy shoulder-line and full pant shapes and there were subtle decorative details that suggested this artist at least has a sartorial edge, with rich mercury-like jacquards, metallic topstitching and taffeta lapels.
