The government has cleared senior advocate Indu Malhotra’s name for the appointment as a Supreme Court judge, making her the first woman from bar to be directly elevated to the Bench.

Indu Malhotra will take oath on Friday. The Chief Justice of Uttrakhand High Court Justice KM Joseph Malhotra’s name was also recommended by the collegium comprising five senior-most judges of the Supreme Court.
