SOFIA, Bulgaria — Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has informed European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker that he is nominating MEP Mariya Gabriel to be the country’s commissioner.
He also confirmed that her nomination was raised in a conversation last week.
“We hope that her professional qualities and long experience in the European Parliament will contribute to the work of the Commission,” Borisov wrote in a letter to Juncker.

It is not yet confirmed if Gabriel will take over the digital portfolio vacated by Commissioner Günther Oettinger in January.
