ROCKVILLE, MD — First lady Melania Trump will be in Rockville on Monday for an anti-bullying summit, according to multiple sources. She will address the issue of online bullying at the Federal Partners in Bullying Prevention Summit on Cyberbullying, CNN reported.
The annual summit started in 2010, according to the U.S. Department of Education. Its aim is to create a national strategy to reduce and put a stop to bullying, education officials said.
First lady Melania Trump will deliver remarks at the summit about the effects of social media on young people, and she will attend a panel discussion with representatives from various social media platforms, according to the press advisory published by CNN.
The announcement that the first lady would be speaking at Monday’s cyberbullying event in Rockville comes two days after her husband, President Donald Trump, called former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman a “dog” on Twitter.

Before the November 2016 election, Mrs. Trump pledged to make cyberbullying her signature cause.
She hosted tech company representatives at the White House to talk about cyberbullying in March, and in May, she unveiled her multi-pronged Be Best initiative, which focuses on childhood well-being, social media and opioid abuse. The public awareness campaign is designed to encourage parents and other adults to teach children how to be good citizens by being kind, refraining from bullying on social media and elsewhere, and staying away from drugs.
This will not be the first time that the first lady has spoken about anti-bullying initiatives after her husband has made derogatory remarks about others online.
In October, she spoke of the importance of teaching children empathy and communication skills at a National Bullying Prevention Month event in Michigan the day after the president took aim at a congresswoman on Twitter, calling her “wacky” and a “disaster” for Democrats.
The advisory regarding her appearance Monday on the topic did not say where in Rockville the cyberbullying summit would be held.
FLOTUS has made several announced appearances in Montgomery County, most recently at Walter Reed, the Bethesda hospital where she underwent kidney surgery in May and surprised service members in July.
