American Airlines 'Connectivity' Issue Causes Headaches

FORT WORTH, TX — American Airlines has apologized to passengers whose travel plans were impacted Sunday due to a “brief connectivity issue.” Travelers across the country took to social media to express their frustrations. Some reported being stuck on the tarmac, others said they were having trouble with the airline’s mobile app.

American Airlines told Patch in a statement it was having connectivity problems with one of its data centers, but that the problem has since been resolved.

“We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and all operations are returning back to normal,” the emailed statement said.

Passengers began tweeting about the outage around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

“Pilot just said that @AmericanAir computers are down at #LAX. They’re holding all planes at the gate. Which means we can’t get to our gate. It’s 89 degrees and getting warmer on the plane as we sit on the tarmac,” tweeted user @tylercoward.

Others tweeted out photos showing the airline’s mobile app had gone kaput.

“@americanair ‘Our system is having trouble’ errors intermittently on web AND mobile app for 2+ days now,” tweeted user @johnny2678. “How can I check-in for my flight?”

The outage was affecting flights across the country, passengers were reporting, including in Los Angeles, St. Louis and Kentucky.

A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed to WLWT-TV around 2:45 p.m. the mysterious issue was resolved.

Patch has reached out to American Airlines, based in Fort Worth, about the reports and will update when we hear back.
