Mankato, Minn— After a 4-0 first place finish at the Husky Open Saturday and two wins in Maverick duals on Sunday, Adam Cooling (Sr., 174) earned NSIC Wrestler of the Week honors.
Cooling was the only Maverick to compete at the Husky Open in St. Cloud, Minn., Saturday. Cooling wrestled his way to the finals of the 174 weight class with a major decision against Jackson Graham (Augsburg), and a pair of decisions over Division I opponents Tijani Karaborni (Minnesota) by a score of 6-3 and a 3-1 decision against Jordan Rothers (Minnesota). Cooling’s biggest victory came in the finals where he earned a 4-2 decision over Clayton Jennissen (St. Cloud State), the second-ranked wrestler in NCAA Super Region Three.
On Sunday, Cooling was undefeated in the Mavericks’ first two duals of the season. Cooling posted a 16-1 technical fall over Shane Gallagher during the Mavericks 49-6 win against Truman State. Cooling then gained a 19-7 major decision over Carlos Toledano (Minot State) to finish the weekend with a perfect 6-0 record.
With six wins on the weekend, Cooling now has a 17-1 record on the season. Cooling is currently ranked first in the NCAA Super Region Three at the 174 weight class.
The Mavericks are back in action January 7 in Gunnison, Colo., where they will compete in the Tracy Borah Duals.
