According to today’s edition of L’Équipe, Marseille have, in effect, beaten Arsenal to the signing of Clinton N’Jie.
N’Jie is all set to join Marseille on loan with a quasi-obligatory €7m buy clause, which will come into effect after the Cameroonian international plays a certain number of matches for OM and as long as the club is not relegated to Ligue 2.
Marseille President Vincent Labrune visited N’Jie at his London home on Monday night in an exceptional move by the outgoing man to convince the former Lyon forward to join the club.
Labrune has acted quite brilliantly here, but Marseille are weary of any last minute hiccups.
Especially as Arsenal have recently enquired for the player, according to the French daily newspaper, as well as Villarreal and an unnamed French side in addition to Marseille.
Lyon had been thinking about bringing the player back, but never acted on the idea.
