JACKSON, NJ — The next time you click an ad in the Waze app, you might want to double-check the address. Otherwise, you might wind up in the middle of the woods with a disabled vehicle, 45 miles away from your actual destination.

That’s what happened recently to a number of people who had intended to go to the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City, Jackson police said Monday.

Jackson Lt. Christopher Parise said the department had noticed a marked increase in the number of disabled vehicles in the Colliers Mills Wildlife area, many of them from North Jersey and New York.

The vehicles were well out into the woods, on unpaved roads, where they had gotten stuck.

What Jackson police learned was that the drivers had clicked on an advertisement on the Waze app for the Borgata. The ad had the correct address for the casino — 1 Borgata Way in Atlantic City — but the location embedded in the ad was sending them to the wrong destination.

And not just by a little bit, either; Jackson is 45 miles from Atlantic City.

The location pinned in the ad “is actually in the middle of the Colliers Mills Wildlife Management Area, near Lake Success,” Parise said.

Colliers Mills Wildlife Management Area covers more than 12,000 acres in Jackson and Plumsted.

Parise said Jackson police have been in touch with Waze officials and that the company hoped to have the problem fixed by Tuesday.

Police urged drivers to use extra care when using the locations linked to the ads, and when selecting places that have the same name and similar addresses in different towns.
