Six people were hospitalized after equipment gave way at BWI Airport Saturday night, according to officials. None of the injuries was believed to be life-threatening, authorities said.
Around 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, emergency crews were moving a passenger in need of medical attention from a flight that had arrived at Gate E-10 when the jet bridge that serves the airline gate failed, according to BWI spokesman Jonathan Dean.
The jet bridge is the connection between a plane and building.
In the fall, six people were injured, according to Dean, who said they were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Anne Arundel County Fire Department assisted BWI Fire and Rescue crews at the scene, the department reported after 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29. The Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services also assisted, according to BWI Fire Chief Victor Ferreira.
The remaining passengers deplaned around 8:45 p.m., according to Dean.
No other flights or airport operations were affected, he said.
The passenger loading bridge will be out of service until the review is complete, according to Dean.
