EDMOND, Okla. — Notre Dame (Ohio) maintained its position atop the NCAA Division II wrestling rankings in the final regular season poll released Monday by the Division II Wrestling Coaches Association.
The Falcons earned six first-place votes and finished with 158 points in balloting of head coaches from around the country to keep the No. 1 ranking for the seventh consecutive time.
Two-time defending national champion Nebraska-Kearney received the remaining two first-place votes and earned 151 points to come in second in the poll. St. Cloud State (Minn.) had 146 points to stay third, while Central Oklahoma picked up 133 points in moving past Newberry (S.C.) by three points for fourth.
Rounding out the top 10 is Upper Iowa, Mercyhurst (Pa.), Lindenwood (Mo.), McKendree (Ill.) and California Baptist. Lindenwood, McKendree and Cal Baptist are all first-year Division II programs.
Four regional qualifying tournaments are on tap this weekend, with No. 11 Pittsburgh-Johnstown set to host the East Super Regional, Lake Erie (Ohio) the Midwest Super Regional, No. 4 Central Oklahoma the Central Super Regional and No. 18 Colorado Mesa the West Super Regional.
The NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships are set for March 14-15 in Cleveland, Ohio.
