MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team will resume Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference competition this week when they hit the road to face the University of Mary on Friday at 7 p.m. and Minot State Saturday at 3 p.m. Live video for both duals will be available at msumdragons.com.
MSUM is 1-0 in conference duals this season after beating Northern State 25-12 on Nov. 30. They are 1-4 overall this season, including losses to No. 23 Colorado Mesa and San Francisco State University last week.
The Dragons are coming off a successful tournament at the Menlo Open, which included freshman Braydon Ortloff winning the championship at 157 pounds, going undefeated on the day. Redshirt sophomore Seth Hutchison took second place at 133 pounds, with his only loss coming in the championship match. As a team the Dragons finished in fifth place with 74.5 points.
Cole Jones leads the Dragons with a 18-5 record this season. He is one of six Dragons to have double digit wins. Others to reach the mark include Mason Schulz (14-10), Ortloff (10-9), Adam Blees (11-6), Evan Foster (14-8) and Sam Erckenbrack (15-6).
MSUM is led by head coach Kris Nelson, who is in his 10th season as head coach. He is assisted by Blake Bosch (second season), Tyler Lehmann (second season) and Justin Solberg (third season).
About the Marauders
The Marauders enter the dual with a 2-1 overall record and a 0-1 conference mark. Their lone conference match was a 24-12 loss to Northern State University of Dec. 6. They have nonconference wins over Concordia College and Minot State University. Head coach Adam Aho is in his sixth season as head coach.
About the Beavers
Minot State enters the dual with an 0-4 record and a 0-3 mark in conference competition. Their three conference losses have come to St. Cloud State, Upper Iowa and Minnesota State-Mankato. Head coach Evan Forde, a former MSUM wrestler and assistant, is in his fourth season as head coach.
Upcoming Schedule
The Dragons will be on the road on Jan. 17 when they travel to Sioux Falls to face the Augustana Vikings before returning home on Jan. 26 to host Upper Iowa at 2 p.m.
