Marcelo Mendez’s team started its way in the Brazilian Superliga with a victory over Sao Bernardo in 3 sets (21-16, 21-15 and 21-16).
The Argentinean coach gave to their audience the first joy of the season at home and after the game he said: “I have a great roster available, with very good players, and i have to count on every one of them as it will be a very long season. Today I had the opportunity to know a little more of the rookies and to see them in action. I really liked our performance, it was a great start in the Superliga”.
Nevertheless, despite the good performance of his team, Mendez ended upset with the duration of the match (1.10 hs) because of the implementation of the 21 points sets concerning the new FIVB rule book. In his twitter account, @marcemendez1964, he published: “3-0, 41 minutes playing and 45 warming up! What a contradiction! They want to shorten the game and they enlarge the gap between 2nd and 3rd set! #21ptsnao”.
Since his arrival in the Brazilian Superliga, in late 2009, the success of Marcelo Mendez has been awesome: his teams disputed 9 finals and won 8. With Montes Claros/Funadem he won the Globo Minas Chalenge and the Mineiro Championship. Then, he moved to his actual club, Sada Cruzeiro, where he stands 3 Mineiro Championships, 1 Superliga and 1 Southamerican Championship. Besides, he reached the final of the 2011 Superliga but lost to Sesi-SP, and ended third in 2010.
