It has been nearly ten months since Drake Maverick, formerly known as Rockstar Spud, made his debut as the general manager of WWE 205 Live.

In an interesting story in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, another former Impact Wrestling name was apparently considered for the role prior to the signing of Spud – a two-time X-Division Champion known more for his promo work than anything.

According to the report, WWE had “interest” in bringing in legendary play-by-play commentator Mike Tenay to fill the job as 205 Live general manager. Tenay was the voice of TNA Wrestling for most of its time on the air, and for seven years in WCW before that. The topic came up when Dave Meltzer was discussing potential names to join the regular NJPW commentary team now that Don Callis’ dates have become more limited.
