PELLA, Iowa – First-year Kris Kurtz advanced to the consolation championship at 184 pounds to highlight the St. Olaf College wrestling team’s performances at the Central College Under Armour Invitational on Saturday at H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse.
After being pinned in the opening round, Kurtz rebounded by winning a pair of narrow decisions – 4-3 over Kalamana McCreadie of Morningside and 4-2 over Jonathon Juarez of Graceland – before falling by pin at 4:10 of the consolation championship to Briar Cliff’s Jonathan Garcia.
Jack Ridgway and Bryant Ridgway added victories in their middle matches of the day for St. Olaf. In the 149 pounds bracket, J. Ridgway posted a 17-11 decision over Graham Evavold of Saint John’s, while B. Ridgway rebounded from dropping a 7-2 decision to start the day with a tech fall win over Dennis Simmons of William Penn.
Dawson Kremlacek was also in action in the 125-pound bracket and lost his two matches by decision. As a team, St. Olaf finished 12th in the 12-team meet with 3.5 points.
