Tuesday marked the 15th anniversary of the 2004 Jennifer Garner/Mark Ruffalo-led romantic comedy 13 Going on 30 — and more than one of its stars have gone on to play roles in the Marvel universe.
Comic-film fans will remember Garner as Elektra in the 2005 film of the same name and its predecessor Daredevil, starring Ben Affleck. And now, both Ruffalo and fellow 13 Going on 30 alum Brie Larson are huge names in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Bruce Banner/The Hulk and Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, respectively.
Ruffalo got a huge surprise Tuesday night while attending the Avengers: Endgame world premiere in Los Angeles when he learned during an interview with Entertainment Tonight that Larson had appeared in 13 Going on 30. The actress played one of the “Six Chicks” in the ’80s scenes, meaning they had no scenes together.

“She was a mean girl! Oh my God, that’s amazing. Wow, I didn’t know that,” said Ruffalo, 51, laughing as he held up a still from the film. “We didn’t work together [on that movie].”
Earlier this month, Ruffalo dished on his time filming the now-iconic romantic comedy, which saw Garner’s character Jenna Rink get transported 17 years into the future after the Six Chicks — including Larson’s character — play a cruel prank on her.
Eventually, through her experience, she becomes more confident and learns she’s in love with her best friend Matty.
“We had the sweetest time,” Ruffalo told Entertainment Tonight of Garner, 47. “[Jennifer] was a big star then but I was kind of just starting out. She was just so lovely.”

“We were making this really sweet movie that had a great message for young girls,” he continued. “We were all sort of coming into our own in that moment. We really loved that story and Jen was just transformed into a 13-year-old girl. It was really amazing.”

Larson (who was also on hand Tuesday night at the star-studded Endgame premiere) was recently named a Beauty of the Year in PEOPLE’s Beautiful Issue — which, coincidentally, has Garner on the cover!
She admitted in an interview surrounding the issue that she isn’t “trying to maintain a certain image of any kind,” and feels more empowered now that she has “a sense of ownership over myself that I didn’t have before.”
“And I feel more comfortable speaking up for myself and others around me who maybe aren’t as comfortable using their voice,” said Larson, 29.
Avengers: Endgame explodes into theaters Friday.
