ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — A Maryland mom is heaping praise upon a child whose behavior while out trick-or-treating left her stunned. Leslie Hodges set a bowl full of delicious Halloween candy on her front porch Thursday surrounded by festival holiday decorations. The mom trusted the neighbor kids and other trick-or-treaters would be honest and only take one or two pieces of candy from the bowl, leaving enough for everyone.
But when one little vampire clambered up Hodges’ porch steps, he discovered an empty candy bowl. Some kids might burst into tears or be mad there wasn’t any candy. But not this little trooper.
In the video below, you can see Jackson Champagne, 8, pondering what to do about this perplexing situation for a moment, then he glances over his shoulder at his aunt and a little girl waiting for him in the driveway. What he does next has prompted an outpouring of praise from Facebook world.
He opens up his own candy bag and begins replenishing Hodges’ bowl so that other trick-or-treaters wouldn’t encounter the same empty bowl that he did. In the video, you can see Mom and little sister walking up to see what was taking him so long.
“Awww that was really nice Jackson,” his aunt said.
The little boy loudly proclaims, “There we go,” after finishing his good deed and heads off to the next house. When Hodges saw this act of kindness on her Nest cam, she couldn’t believe it and just had to share it on Facebook.
“Caught this on our Nest camera…. this has got to give hope to everyone that there are still amazing people in this world. What a selfless act from this little guy! Kudos to his parents!!!” Hodges wrote on Facebook.
Hodges had taken her three-year-old daughter trick-or-treating while her husband, a Prince George’s County firefighter, was on duty. He was checking in on the house via video and saw this adorable clip.
So far Hodges’ video has been viewed millions of times and shared hundreds of thousands of times. Jackson’s dad, 27-year-old Ty Champagne, told the Washington Post he wasn’t surprised by his son’s actions.

“That’s the type of kid Jackson is. He’s always giving,” Champagne said. “He’s a very sweet, kind and soft-spoken kid. I’ve never seen a moment where he acts out negatively toward humanity.”
